I just bought the newly-released 'Hitchhiker's Guide' movie soundtrack on i-tunes. It's the first music I've ever downloaded from any source anywhere ever... The whole album was available for just $9.99
My gods it's... it's beautiful...
The banjo-riddled 'Journey of the Sourcerer' theme from the TV and radio show? It's in there, complete with corny circa 1981 synthesizers that continue to sprinkle themselves around the movie's score... And does anyone remember the depeche mode-sounding songs that were sung by the original Marvin the Paranoid Android back in 1982? The song 'Reasons to be Miserable' is on the new soundtrack, too... but sung by Stephen Frye and all EBM'd up... If a DJ doesn't jump on that and start spinning it soon I'm gonna be ticked.
And we can't forget the broadway-style opening number 'So Long and Thanks for All the Fish', sung as the Dolphins flee the planet:
"The world is going to be destroyed!
No point in getting all annoyed
Sit back and let it all dissolve!"
Or the jaunty 'skipping-through-the-meadows' sounding song that plays as the Vogon reads his poetry to Arthur and Ford...
This is going to be the coolest movie ever made.

Wed, April 6, 2005 - 8:17 AMI'm glad they're re-using "Journey of the Sorcerer" even if just for a few nostalgic moments. I think I can safely say, it's my favorite Eagles song (which ain't sayin' much).
I wrote a pre-release piece about the movie for MSN and am now waiting for my screening passes. I'm SO scared. As a dear frend said, "I don't want them ruining what's in my head!" -

I think for your own sake, you should give me those passes and let me take the pain for you.
